You’ve probably heard the terms masculine and feminine energy; they refer to the unique mix that exists within each of us. Some of the traits that are typically associated with each energy type are listed in the table below.

One of the ways I’ve seen this summed up is to say that masculine energy is ‘doing’ energy and feminine energy is ‘being’ energy. We all have masculine and feminine energy in the balance that’s right for our unique selves regardless of our gender identity.
I started to learn more about this a few years ago when I hit a point of exhaustion. There had been a lot of change in my life and I threw all of my energy into moving forward and getting things done. It served a purpose but it left me with very little time to just be or to feel. When I reached the point of exhaustion I couldn’t find the right words to explain to anyone how I was feeling, until I found this quote about the role of the feminine.
“We live it when effort, and even perseverance, can no longer carry us through a challenge. When our own efforts have weakened and the darkness of failure looms, when exhaustion demands surrender – this is so often the moment when something truly new takes place. Through vulnerability and non-action another force continues the creative process”. ~author unknown
By constantly pushing myself to do more, I had gotten out of balance. There was no time or space for my feminine energy.
In a partnership there will typically be polarity in these energies. Polarity is part of what builds attraction. Is there room for both of these energies in your relationship and an understanding of the other person’s energy make up?
